Throughout my life, I have enjoyed working with many mediums; drawing, painting, ceramics, and photography. I majored in art at UCLA, honing skills rich to my family history. My mother was an accomplished watercolorist and my brother works as a silk-screen artist and painter in San Diego. But when I took up the torch and began welding, I knew pretty quickly that this was for me. I enjoy the physicality of it--working with steel summons strength from the whole body! I have also found the process of welding can be a very contemplative action. There is something about the medium and the process that I connect with spiritually; something in me was sparked! And I do like those sparks! Even though I've picked up welding rather recently in my artistic career, I've found it the most rewarding. In addition to the joy of the work, I especially delight in the opportunity welding creates for me to collaborate with my husband, Peter, who has also learned to weld. This form of art seems the best venue for my expression. Expressions born out of rich experiences lived in different cultures, exposure to a wide range of ideas, and the wonder of the ongoing spiritual journey.
