Conscious Love

I was listening to the British scientist, Rupert Sheldrake, who studied at Cambridge.  He also lived and worked in India.  He believes that there is a degree of consciousness in everything in the natural universe - though not in created things like refrigerators or aircraft carriers.  As I listened to him talk about the consciousness of the sun, I found myself loving the concept.  It made me want to depict the sun and moon and do them in brass- I had never worked in brass before.  I consulted two young men who know way more about metal than I could ever hope to learn.  Working brass is 25% more difficult to work than copper.  You have to hit it harder and anneal (heating with a torch to soften the metal) it more frequently.  I wanted to make the sun and moon looking at each other, like they’re in love.  I wanted all the sun’s rays to look like they’re longing for, straining towards the moon.  This is a spiritual metaphor for me of Divine longing.  A dear classmate from my school in India helped me with the spelling of the word in Hindi, located below the sun.  It spells Satchidananda, which means “being, consciousness, bliss.”  The stars are singing about this mutual longing to connect.
